“The Brevity of Red” was nominated for the Atlantic Poetry Prize and the Acorn-Plantos Award in 2004. When Scott Macmillan composed “Currents of Sable Island,” he used my poem Sable Island 44˚N 60˚W for the libretto.
“The Nine Lives of Travis Keating” won the Ann Connor Brimer Award for Children’s Literature (2009), was on the Honour List of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) and was a Silver Birch honour book.
“The Present Tense of Prinny Murphy” won the Ann Connor Brimer Award for Children’s Literature in 2010 (I was thrilled to win for the second year in a row), was on the Honour List of the United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY), was nominated for the Josette Frank Award (NYC) and for the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Book Award.
“The Hidden Agenda of Sigrid Sugden” won the Red Cedar Award (2014).
“Home Truths” was chosen for the Nova Scotia school curriculum in 2016 (Pink Shirt day originated in Nova Scotia).
“Nix Minus One” won the Ann Connor Brimer Award for Children’s Literature (2014), and was chosen for the White Ravens Honour List by the International Youth Library in Munich.
Altogether, my five books for young readers were nominated for fifteen other Tree Awards, and three were chosen as finalists for the Canadian Library Association’s Best Book of the Year.
